lease has been fufilled, stayed an extra month, left with short notice, am i entitled to my deposit

By Joseph

I have a question i rented an apartment in morgan city louisiana. i signed a 6 month lease. I paid my rent early every month was never late, kept the apt in tip top shape and when i returned it i returned it in tip to shape. even better that i recieved it in. I asked him initialy about if i needed to stay extra after the lease was finished he said i just had to send my normal payment and that was it. it was like a month to month if you will, anyways the lease was completed and i was there for an extra month when i came back in from being offshore i had been layed off and unfourtunetly my check was to short to pay rent. it was 2 days before the 5th when rent was finally due so i did what i had to do i packed up and had to move back out of states to my parents house till i can find a job there again and move back. anyways they avoided me for 2 weeks and then finally the landlord had his secretary call me to tell me im not getting me deposit back. am i entitled to my deposit. or not. or am i entitled to some? remember the lease was fufilled and finished for over a month. the lease says nothing at all about renewing or anything at all about renting month to month.
