My apartment is infested with COCKROACHES- PLEASE HELP!

By Megan

I just moved into my new apartment, I have not even finished unpacking. I have worked hard to get this apartment for my son and I and I have recently discovered (About 2 days after move in) that the apartment is infested with roaches!!!! WHAT ARE my legal rights as a tenant? Is it legal for a landlord to allow you to move in and not tell you that the place is infested with cockroaches? I know there is no way to get rid of them, not for good, so are my son and I stuck to live in this horrible place?  I have not been able to sleep at all there completely disgusted and worried about them crawling on my baby boy or myself at night.

I put all my money into this move so how in the hell can I find another place to move to, plus I signed a six month lease.
WHAT IF my landlord which i assume will do, what if she wont exterminate the whole complex?
PLEASE HELP ME, I dont know what to do, I have no idea what my legal rights are.
Thank you.
Also my Apartment is in Sacramento, California.

You may file a complaint against your landlord for misleading you because you won’t rent a place if it’s not conducive to living. Or propose an agreement that you’ll call a pest terminator to rid the place of roaches and have him shoulder the expenses.

I am paying the rent for my son whom is renting in Las Vegas, NV at the south cove apartments located on Freemont street.
After moving in that night he found himself bombarded with cockroaches galore. He said they even crawled on him. They were on the bed, on sofa, in the refrigerator, and in the shower etc.. He has never been around them before, so this is traumatic when the bugs crawl on him. The apartment maintenance man sprayed, but they came back. What is our rights?

My apt is also infested I called 311 but my Mom yelled at me to not file a complaint I told my super n just emailed his wife I even sprayed my walls with clorox n they go n than they come back any where I killed them off of I feel like I’m living in hell! I’m scared for my safety, my pets n my mother I lived in this building many yrs n there were always problems with something when they transferred our apt they did not fix everything up the only thing they did when we moved in is paint while we were all moved in! My super apt is gorgeous it looks like it don’t belong in this building n if him n his family is living in safety than everyone else should also. They just don’t stop coming their on my clothes, refrigerator, shower etc every part of my apt I have not seen on my bed or dogs I’m exhausted n frustrated i feel like I won’t be able to sleep with knowing this.
