Problem with property manager & home owners/ Need help please

By anonymous

Me and my husband rented this house closer to his work in NC. We have a month to month lease and pay $1100 in rent every month plus the utilities. We recently had a hurricane come through here and it flooded all the way to the bottome of the doors and then went down rapidly. Since our house sets about 5 feet off the ground all the duct work under the house got filled with water. And the AC quit working. I called our property manager to report the damages from the hurricane and she came out and looked at everything like they are supposed to. It has been a week and a half since the hurricane and there has not been anyone out here for insurance companies or to repair anything. My whole family has become ill from the mildew smell in the whole house. We all have the same symptoms and when we leave the house we start feeling better. So we are suffering from breathing in mold spores (more than normal amounts). I have 2 daughters (one is 3 and one is 9 months) that have to live in this house. We were a military family and choose to stay here so we have no family or anyone to go stay with. And we have dogs and can’t stay at any local hotels. I have sealed off the vents with plastic and opened all the windows and even turned on all the ceiling fans to try and air all the mold spores out of the house. I even went and bought an air purifier and when we are in the same room as it we all start feeling better. But what do I have to do to get this problem fixed? We pay a lot of money to live in this house and it is becomeing a health hazard to my family. It’s not fair to us to have to be cooped up in one room together just so we can feel better and not become more ill.
