Landlord is trying to evict…

By Jon

Hello!!! I have a Landlord who threatens to evict us every month because of some sort of ridiculousness. Ive only been here to months and its already out of hand. The first time we received a threat was in the first week of moving in. we still had some stuff in the old place and we had boxes everywhere in the new one. This upset the almighty Craig. Then more recently accused us of breaking an ac unit in the basement. We did move it about 1.5 ft but I don’t remember breaking anything on it. I have no problem telling hm the truth but that did not include admitting to breaking anything. So after responding (and fixing the ac which was not included anywhere in the lease) he decided, and I quote;

I’ve owned 4 apartments for the past 8 years, so I have some experience with tenants. It’s important to develop a relationship with your tenant as they are living and caring for something that I have invested a lot of time and money into through the years. I look for a tenant who will respect me and my property, and ultimately continue a long relationship as a tenant.

I look at our relationship by just reviewing the series of emails below – where I’m asking about what happened to an air conditioner unit. An air conditioning unit that was not broken when you moved in. Your responses goes from — you never touched it – to, now you remember moving it – to you’ll agree to fix it but I should remove it from my house because…..I didn’t understand this, except that you’re implying I falsely accused you of breaking it in the first place. This is not a good relationship.

It is my feeling that you’re not happy in this apartment and that is reflected in the continuous complaints and misunderstandings regarding the apartment. I would just think you might be happier elsewhere.

You have signed a year’s lease, but in our best interest, I will let you out of this lease as long as you’re out within 30 days from Aug 2nd 2012 , or sooner if you find something earlier.

Please see section 24 of the lease.

Thank you.

Craig

Section 24 of the lease says that the landlord reserves the right to terminate the lease at any time with 30 days prior notice. Is this even legal? I mean, I’m pretty sure this is a business deal and not a relationship. If it is and I’m wrong then i guess ill just have to take him out to dinner and apologize.
