| Apartment Fee for Moving | Nayeon Kim | IL | former renter |
|
hi, i’m living in chicago and trying to move out this week. we have moving in, ,moving out fee which is $300 the office told me that if i separate the moving out time with my subleaser on same day, i can just pay 150, so, i made reservation time on saterday (9-12), and i was going to use 1hour and my subleaser going to use 2hours after me. and. yesterday, i moved out part of my stuffs because my friend who has a car would like to help me move out before my moving day, so i checked out the cart from apartment and i moved out four traveling bags and few small boxes (it was less than 6 boxes so i can put all in the cart ) but my landlord called me and told that office send her a email to her that i moved out. so i should pay $300.and i also must pay another $300 if i have additional stuff to move out. are they kidding?!!!!!!!!!!!! it’s not understandable. really,, first, i didn’t even move out many things, and i still have a lot of things to move out. yesterday, in the morning i moved out my traveling bags which has wheels on the bottom and took a cap to go to new place. and afternoon, when my friend came, i only carry things that i could put in the SUV (no furniture, only boxes). i didn’t even carry out my office chair. i thought that it would be not consider as moving out, because i used cart to carry out boxes and didn’t even put down boxes on the floor. can it be consider as moving out? it is, they should charge me $300 whenever i go to ikea. and whenever i go to travel. and even whenever i got a delievery from my grocery store. can somebody help me? should i must pay additional $300 for moving out? |

My girlfriend and i have been looking for an apartment and found what would be the perfect one for us. She viewed the place and loved it on friday and monday morning she placed a deposit; which the lady showing the property said would hold the apartment. After leaving, another couple came in and asked to view the property and she decided to give the apartment to them because “they seemed like they would be such good tenants.” She also said our current landlord didnt answer the phone when she called to verify and was worried the other couple would find somewhere else to rent. I thought the deposit held the unit for you while they checked your references, is this not correct? Also, my girlfriend feels the reason we were refused is that we work in the film industry and do not have “normal jobs” however the landlord was provided pay stubs for the last 2 months. Also, my girlfriend has blond hair with purple streaks and feels like that may have influenced the decision and she does have tourette’s syndrome. would this be discrimination? |

my husband got stationed in colorado, we have been renting a house for 7 months now. we have had sevral problem with our mangement company. They never come out and fix anything when called it takes 3 weekes for a responce. We when have had people messing with our garage door key pad and opening it when we would be sleeping. We call and asked how we go about changing the code on it. Plus there has been things stolen for our yard. Well last Sat our house was broke into and they used the key pad for the garage. I want to know if there is a law saying i can break my lease because i don’t feel safe living there we have 2 kids living in the home as well. |

| Landlord Breach? | glmo | CA | Renter |

I know it is hard to answer without seeing this particular lease, but any general advice would be a great help! My landlord gave a renewal notice less than 30 days prior to the termination of my lease. In the letter, it stated we have to give 30 days notice if I was to vacate the apartment. Is this legal? Did she violate the law by giving us less than 30 days notice to renew. Further, I had inquired more than 30 days out about renewal options and they said they could not say anything until i recieved my official renewal notice (described above). Also, after getting the letter, I asked my landlord multiple times when I need to make a decision by and she repeatedly said “a couple days before your lease runs out” Thanks! |

| Late rent fee | aunjie843 | SC | angry renter |

I just moved to Charleston Sc about 7 months ago, and we moved to Palms Apartment of Palms Associates what should have been a sign of something wasn’t right was when we couldn’t pick our own apartment. the second was when our upstairs neighbors started giving us problems within the first week which escalated. so we had to get the city of charleston involved. my main reason for this post is the ridiculous LATE RENT FEE! they charge us a hundred bucks for our rent being late I wanted to know whether they can charge us that much? They also have is paying a water bill I get that but can they also charge that ridiculous one hundred dollar late fee and on too of that charge a 40 legal fee? I’m suck of this place its like you have to determine whether your going to pay car insurance or get groceries pay your lug nil or them. I feel something is fishy about the Palms Apartments. Is thru anything II can do about this? Thanks in Advance |

I have been a renter at a townhome complex for coming up on four years now, and maintenance has taken over the decisions of the manager of the property and it becomes extremely frustrating when her nose is in everything. I was under the impression that renting a townhome includes community property of all surrounding buildings, i.e., told we cannot walk on her property or the friend that lives next door. It’s really getting petty. The maintenance person has had her live in boyfriend entering townhomes to do maintenance when he isn’t employed there. Is there any recourse for this action? |

| Apartment flooding | Rachel Weddell | TX | Former Renter |
|
The apartment our son lives in began to flood so he called the maintenance crew of the apartment complex. They arrived and turned off the water but later told him that they wouldn’t be able to keep the water turned off because other people in his building needed to take showers in the morning. They purposefully flooded his apartment with hot water before turning off the water again to fix the leak. He has damaged furniture, costs incurred as a result of having to stay in a hotel, and lost worktime from having to address these issues. If he ends up having to move to a new apartment will he be legally responsible for the new connection fees or will the apartment complex be? Does he have any recourse with respect to his damaged belongings? |
