I gave move out notice during first week of December 2009. I had a flight for India on 27th dec 2009. When I left apartment on 27th dec 2009. I left it so cleaned. I cleaned even under the stove. I do have all the pictures of the apartment. If it is true they should charge me in oct 2008 too. Is it valid? |

I started getting sick 4 months ago. It started very ordinary. I got the flu with the rest of my co-workers. however, I never got better. I began to have breathing problems, chest congestion, headaches, fatigue and sinus congestion just to name a few symptoms. It was effecting me at work and with every aspect of my life. I thought I was going crazy. I thought I was somehow creating these symptoms in my head. Just this morning I was in my bathroom and I noticed something on the floor that was not normal. I reached over to touch it and freaked out. It was a mushroom. Maintenance found mold in the floorboards. What are my rights? I cannot afford to move and now the rental company is trying to tell me that I am responsible for expenses for moving and finding another place to stay. I am very scared and still sick. My doctor says that it is very serious and I have spots on my lung. What should I do? |

I am currently in an apartment that has flooded for a second time in 2 years. The manager will move me to another apartment like the one I am in but will charge me $50 more a month. This is the same floor plan and all. I have had it with the apt complex and want out of my lease with out any fees. Can I do this? |

I have a question that needs an urgent reply. I am doing this for someone my mother knows, so I don’t know all the particulars. This woman apparently lives in a house that has been separated into apartments. So, I am assuming she is renting from an individual. It is very cold in Indiana right now and she has no heat. She also says she only has one working electrical outlet. I think she is using a big orange electrical extension cord to run to her bedroom for a space heater. She has told the landlord and they won’t do anything about it. On a different note, they told her if she moves out she won’t get her deposit back because the guy they used to collect rent/deposits stole it, so they say, she would have to sue him. I have looked on the internet a little, and the only advice I can find about the heat problem is to sue (in small claims court) and/or call a code enforcement officer to check the house (not sure what that accomplishes for her. She needs something fast. She cannot afford a lawyer, small claims court, etc., as she says after rent she only has $20 a week left. Does anyone know if there is any other agency who has legal jurisdiction over renters/landlords that can help her? She lives in Noblesville, Indiana, I think. |

Due to loss of employment I had to move from my apartment that I have been at for the past four years. There has never been any problems in the past between myself and the landlord. I originally sign a one year lease and renewed it twice, however the last year (2009) (The last signed leas I have is from 2007no renewal was signed and I requested that I go to a month to month lease. On December 1st I gave my notice to move. I was informed that I had to give 60 days notice. Upon checking my rights with the State of Minnesota website I learned that when there is no new lease signed the terms automatically go to month to month and the standard 30 day requirement is in effect. Please let me know if I’m wrong. I then took a letter to my landlord stating this and asked if we could come to mutually agreeable solution. I never got a response and had to move on January 1. I cleaned my apartment including washing all the walls and seilings but had to lleav some items in due to lack of time and space. I willing gave up my security deposit to cover the expense for disposing of those items. I recently received an invoice from my landlord stating that I owed $642.23 to cover one months rent and additional expense for removing ites left in the apartment. I dont believe I owe the final months rent due to the state laws, however would be willing to offer up to $200 to the apartment complex. What are my rights? |

NOTE: 12-14-2009 GET A BETTER VISUAL. TO MY SATISFACTION THE POLICE PRESENCE AND BURGLAR BARS ON THE APT MADE IT “A NICE DEAL” I CALLED THE NUMBER LISTED ON CRAIG’S LIST AND MET THE OWNER, BECAUSE SHE WANTED HER TENANTS TO FEEL AT HOME. SHE INFORMED ME THAT ABSOLUTELY NO APPLIANCES WOULD BE INSTALLED UNTIL UNITS WERE RENTED BY TENANTS. SHE INFORMED ME THAT EACH TENANT IN THE QUAD PLEX ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ELECTRICITY AND WATER UTILITIES. THIS WAS STANDARD SO I AGREED. [601-815-5700] WHEN ASKED WHO WAS MY INSURANCE CARRIERS I STATED, I’M NOT PAYING FOR THIS MISS ANTHONY’S NEGLECT IS RESPONSIBLE!!!! The lock/door handle on my apartment door failed recently, which left me locked in my apartment for six hours. I called the landlord’s office, which helped get me in touch with maintenance. The issue was resolved the next morning. The biggest issue for me is the maintenance worker told me this has happened several times before. I consider it irresponsible to not make changes to the doors after the problem reoccurs. How should I go about dealing with this issue? |

I am a renter in this apartment community since one year. recently i found that something was biting me. They called up the pest control and placed monitors. couldnt find anything. later they sent sniffer dog and the dog says i have bed bugs but i dont see any. now the apartment management is asking me to pay for the pest control treatment which would cost 1000$ aprox.(for each treatment it costs 250$, and it may take 3 -4 vistis) whos responsibility is this. they are sayin that since its in your apartment you have to pay for it. apartment mgr is working with exterminator to set appointment, but wants me to pay for it. Please advice & thanks in advance. |

I have bad leak in ceiling for few montha now and landlord wanted to put tarp up as a fix but seems that would just sent water elsewhere.I hope I can move out without much of a notice and also not have to pay another penny before I move out. My husband and I have been living in a rented home since July and the last couple of months we’ve noticed mold growing in the window sills. The windows are new and the landlord did not put trim around the outside of the windows as they were gonna re-side the house. So without the trim, there is excess moisture allowed in. The trim boards in most of the windows upstairs are bulging and moldy. I clean the mold off once a week and it keeps coming back. The main issue we have is that my husband has EXTREME allergies to practically every type of mold and had major health issues from being exposed to toxic mold a couple of years ago. I also have a son with asthma and allergies in the home as well. We have called our landlords several times and they keep saying someone is coming “next week” to fix the trim and put trim outside the windows. Our landlords are nice people but just aren’t taking the mold issue seriously. My husband has been getting ill the last several weeks with headaches, nose bleeds, abdominal pain, cough, runny nose, all the symptoms he had when exposed to toxic mold before. I have had different things going on that might be related if there is indeed a toxic mold in the house that were listed on a symptoms list (hair loss, anxiety, headaches). What are our rights? We love our rental home but don’t want to risk our health to live here. Any suggestions? |
