My current apartment contract requires a 60 day notice before moving out by the 1st of the month.  Our current rent is $685/month.  We submitted our notice on March 7th in hopes of still moving out April 30th.  I called my apartment on April 2nd and talked to someone in the office who told me I was good to move on on April 30th and owe nothing more.  When I turned in keys on the 30th, they told me that since the notice was turned in on the 7th that we still owed rent for May which month to month would be $1045 for this month.  I argued that I would have not gotten a new apartment in April if the apartment employee did not tell me I was free to move out in April.  Should I have to still pay this $1045?  Please let me know because I am currently in a debate with the Corporate Office.  Thanks.
