I filed a Landlord Complaint!!

Apartment Complaint, General Topics

I just thought I would post an update about a landlord complaint I just filed with the RPA.

The process was fairly simple.  It took me about 5 minutes to complete the complaint form.  I was impressed that I immediately got my case number after paying the $35 filing fee.  Since my complaint is based upon my air conditioning being out AND its over 100 degrees outside, I chose to rush my complaint for an extra $18.
When I came back today to check out the status of my landlord complaint I was surprised to see that an agent was already assigned to my case.  In fact, the complaint has about 8 different updates from the agent showing that my complaint has been accepted, reviewed, paper work completed and mailied.  According to my case status we are now pending a response from management.
So far I’m very happy with this process.  I’m confident my Air Conditioner will be up and running very soon.
I hope that helps anyone else who may be wondering what happens after you file a landlord complaint.  I know for me, I had no idea what was going to happen… the site doesn’t really explain it too well.  Hopefully the RPA can improve the complaint page so that people can understand the process better before they file.  For what its worth, I’m impressed up to this point.

I have lived at City lights for 1.5 years. At the beginning of this year 2011 the water bill was $45 and the due date was the 15th of the month. Since January 2011 the water bill has doubled to $90 and now my landlord states if I do not pay with my rent they will charge a late fee. Is this legal? They make changes without notifying tenants constantly.
