Landlord won’t return security deposit

SC Landlord Problems, Legal Questions

My son’s lease expired in July 2010 at a house he and 3 others rented in Charleston, SC for his junior year at college.  My son and one other housemate moved out.  They requested their security deposit from their landlord.  He inspected the house and told the boys he doesn’t have the money and that they are to get the security deposit from the two new renters.  Then they discovered a sign posted on the house they had just moved out of.  The house is being auctioned off for non-payment of property taxes.  We have a feeling that the landlord (a doctor with 18 rental properties in Charleston) is going to claim bankruptcy.  However in the meantime we have tried to reach him and his phone message service is full.  I even left a message at his office’s message center and he won’t return our calls or our son’s calls.  Any suggestions as to how we may be able to get our security deposit back?

Continue to expose him. I signed a lease, paid a deposit, never moved in and could not get my money back. This happened over the weekend. And it seems to be legal here in Houston, TX. It happened at Crestmont Village Apts., 5638 Selkin Road. The owner is Abraham Vaknin. The condition were awful. They would not show me one prior to paying the deposit. They knew what they were doing. Scamming! If anynody can assist me in getting my money back, I would be grateful.
