The heating unit in the house is not circulating the air. The gas burner works properly, but since this is also an air conditioning unit, there is a blower for the system. I contacted the landlord twice by phone leaving a message both times, dropped off a letter with my rent, and put in a maintenance work order. My landlord told me that since we have gas heat that is all we have, there isn't a blower to circulate the air. This was information that he got from maintenance that didn't come over to check out the unit or to even see how cold it actually is inside. The unit has been on 24/7 trying to keep up causing my gas bill to sky rocket, but the highest it will get in the house no matter the setting is 55-58 degrees. Over night the house drops to about 45-50degrees.
At the same time, pipes in the shower are freezing up. The water does not drain from the tub proving that the pipes are frozen. Since we have a cast iron tub (on an outside wall), the water that won't drain may begin to freeze because the tub stays cold. I am unable to use the shower for proper hygiene. Although the sink and toilet run, these pipes may start to freeze along with the shower drain. All my landlord says is to have the water run to break up the ice. This also causes my water bill to go up if I leave facets to trickle. With the temperatures outside dropping, I do not see how this dripping will even help.
As of now the living conditions are acceptable and unhealthy. The only thing that can be done is to have some actually look at the heating unit and get a working blower. Also, if this is working like they say it is, there must be a leak because you can barely feel any heat coming from the vents. Worst case scenario, space heaters will need to be provide for each room to allow for even heating and hopefully get the heat up to a reasonable comfort level.
