| COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
|
I have had the same mattressfor the last four years, and the same box springs and bed frame for the last year. When I first moved in, I had my box springs lying on the floor with my mattress on top until I could get my bed frame set up about a week later. Approximately one month after I moved into my apartment at the Pointe, I began waking up to itchy bug bites on my back and arms. I called my leasing office to report the bites, assuming they were mosquito or spider bites, and the Orkin inspector found bed bugs instead, much to my surprise. I received a '24-hour Notice to Enter' on my door on 04/26/2010 and followed their instructions for pre-treatment. I spent that entire week at my boyfriend's home because the notice had the wrong date listed for treatment and I had to re-wash my clothing because of the error. I didn't experience any additional bites for about two weeks; however, I woke up last week to a bug crawling on my arm and several more on my box springs. I called my apartment office again the next day, and they scheduled a follow-up inspection and treatment for my apartment, but also included an $850.00 fine for treating my apartment and my three neighboring apartments. I spoke with my apartment manager, and she said that since I was the only one found with bed bugs, it led them to believe that I was responsible for bringing them in. I know this cannot be the case since I have had the same bed for years and have never experienced a bed bug problem in any of my previous apartment complexes.
