| COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
|
My daught in the 2nd bedroom began breaking out with bumps on day 2 of moving into the property. We visited ER, Dr, Allergist numerous times. One night she sees a bug in her bed. After exterminator visits, he confirms there is a bed bug infestation. Apartments did help with cleaning the carpet prior to finding this information. They were very helpful when they thought the issue was my daughter allergic to the carpet or paint. My daughter moved from her sister's apartment. The sister's apartment has been verified to not have bed bugs. The house I came from does not have bed bugs. We believe the bugs were here when we arrived. The apartments is refusing to take any fault for the bugs and have basically left this as my issue. I am on a fixed income. The money spent for doctors and now for treatment of bed bugs is above my budget. And I believe without a doubt the bugs were here before we arrived. We had no symptoms previously but as soon as we moved to this unit my daughter began receiving bites. Bed bugs are hard to get rid of. One must be dilligent in getting rid of them. I feel the apartment should hold this responsibility as it is their responsibility to provide a hygenic, safe environment for me to live. I feel strongly that we did not bring the bugs. I can't prove this but they also cannot prove that the bugs did not live there before we rented the unit. My daughter is now afraid to live in the apartment, she is scarred from the bug bites, and I am in a leaseand paying rent for an aparment which I don't belive is being maintained as hospitable for me the renter. The aparments is cleaning the carpet and have arranged for the pest control company to give my aparments treatments for the bed bugs but they have left the burden for payment to me. This is where I feel they are in the wrong. I need help with getting them to pay for this or releasing me from my lease with no penalty.
