| COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
|
When we first noticed we had bed bugs, we immediately went to our apartment complex and told them of the situation. They had someone from a company they go through to come out and look at our apartment and they confirmed it was bed bugs. We then went out and bought a steam cleaner and steam cleaned things around our apartment to try and get rid of some of the bed bugs. We also bought mattress/box spring protectors and also purchased a new box spring/mattress. We had spent about $300 to try and correct the problem ourselves. The apartment complex then notified us only 1 1/2 days before the 1st treatment process. Being that I was 36 weeks pregnant at the time and my husband has MS, we felt we weren't given an ample amount of time to get everything done that was on the list. We had our apartment prepared for the treatment both times prior to the pest control company coming in. In our contract we signed, it stated that the apartment complex would come out and routinely spray for bugs but it didn't mention anything about bed bugs. So then when we reported the problem to them, that's when they brought out a new "rules and regulations" paper stating the bed bug treatment. We did not sign anything new nor did we get a copy of that added item until we notified them of the bed bug problem. We feel that we did everything we could to get rid of them and cooperated with the pest control company to have the treatment completed. We also feel we are not responsible for the bed bug treatment cost and that it should be solely the responsbility of the apartment complex to pay for the treatment.
