COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

We lived there for 4 yrs. We received both verbal and email permission to make any improvements we wanted. We have documentation from him that states that we were good renters. When we moved out, he told us that "everything looked good" on the property. 60 days after we moved out we received a letter from him accusing us of leaving his house in a mess. He claims that we damaged several things around the house and made improvements that were not approved by him in writing. He claims that we did not have written permission to make improvements. He has visited the house many times in the past 4 years and had seen and approved all we had done to improve the place. It was old and outdated. We made over $1000 of improvements/repairs with our own money and did not charge him. 60 days after we moved out, he sent us a letter with numerous allegations/accusations of damage that he had to repair totalling $1237.00 and wants us to pay him $37.00. We have wriiten a response letter asking him to reconsider his actions and to try and settle this amicably outside of court. He has given us the perception that he may charge us legal fees. When we notified him that we were moving out to buy a new home for ourselves, he was upset and tried to convince us to stay another year. He then started sending us wierd emails that we could not understand as if we would skip out and not pay rent?? In a gesture of good faith, I sent him three months worth of checks dated for the first of each month as I have done int he past with instructions to deposit at the 1st of each month. He deposited all three of my checks and made me overdrawn by over $800.00 and almost cost me a qualifying on my new home. We were shocked by his actions.
