COMPLAINT : Bed Bug Infestation and Refusal to Act

COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

I found some bed bugs in my apartment roughly a month ago. I asked my neighbors about if they had noticed any bed bugs recently, and a neighbor indicated that another tenant in our building that just moved out had been complaining about getting "eaten alive by something at night". I spoke with my apartment complex, they informed me that I would be required to pay for extermination. I disagreed, and spoke with them a few days later. The landlord indicated that they would send a bed bug investigator to my apartment and the surrounding apartments. a week later there was a notice on my door stating that they would inspect the building the following Monday, and to prepare the apartment accordingly. I did this, but they ended up not inspecting that Monday, but instead inspecting the building on Tuesday without notice of the change in schedule. Upon coming home from work on Tuesday, it was apparent that they had not inspected my apartment well at all. The bed sheets were barely pulled up and my box spring's zip up/taped cover had not been removed (this is where the bed bugs were). A few days later our building received an amendment to our lease to sign and return stating that tenants would be responsible for bed bug infestations. I spoke with my neighbor, and they had received a bill as well for the proposed extermination of their apartment, as they had found bed bugs in my neighbor's apartment.
