COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

Shortly after moving in to our apartment, we discovered bedbugs in it. Our contract stipulated one pest removal if the managers were notified within one month of moving in. All three of my roommates were from other countries and did not speak English terribly well. So when one of them complained about the bedbugs, apparently the property management company didn't understand him or ignored him or whatever. I don't know. I was not involved at this point. About 3 months later, my roommate starting really freaking about the bedbugs because he finally looked online and found out what they actually were. He showed them to me, and I reported them to FPM. Extermination was arranged, but we are being billed the $1,100 for removal. I have since moved out, and only recently discovered that FPM is trying to charge us for the removal because they sent the case to collections. We should not owe that money however as the first pest removal was stipulated in the rental agreement. Complaint WAS FILED within the first month, but nothing was done about it.

Renter Aug 13, 2012 63.225.32.196 It is true we took over the lease from someone else, however I signed a document that stated that the landlord was responsible for one professional pest removal if reported within the first month of occupancy. As I have stated before, my roommates made such a complaint. NOTHING WAS DONE ABOUT IT until I was also informed by my roommate and took a physical specimen into the property manager's office. You can blame my roommate's poor English all you want, but the complaint was made in JANUARY about the bugs and he claims he was told to "not worry about it." Furthermore, bedbugs were also found in in the apartment next to ours, so there is no proof that my roommates were the ones that introduced them into the complex. Unless you are charging that other apartment $1100 as well this is completely unfair. And if you ARE charging them, then you probably should have looked a bit harder for a pest exterminator that doesnt charge extortionary rates. You can charge my roommates whatever you want, but I refuse to pay for any portion of that treatment.
