COMPLAINT : Bed Bug Infestation from Neighbor's Apartment and Lack of Response
Fair Resolution according to renter :
  1. I would like to be let out of my lease early, without penalty, as this is not a safe or sanitary living environment
  2. I would like my security deposit refunded as well as reduced rent for the period of infestation (7/7/12 on).
  3. I would like my RPA fees reimbursed, as well as my doctor's fees for steroid shot, itch cream, prescriptions.
  4. I would like compensation for items I've had to throw away, including furniture, clothing, & most of my belongings.
  5. I would like to hire my own exterminator at the complex's expense to properly eradicate the problem.

COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

My apartment has bed bugs, which the exterminator informed me are coming from the apartment directly above mine. He said the unit is above is completely infested with thousands of bugs crawling in the carpet and all over the lady's apartment. Since July 7, 2012, I've been getting bitten every night, have been unable to sleep in my bed or bedroom, and had to throw away most of my belongings, including furniture. The lack of response from the leasing office and management company is appaling. They sent someone to spray my mattress 2 weeks ago and again next week, which has done nothing, as bed bugs must be killed by steaming. They continue to come into my apartment every day from the unit above, which the exterminator referred to as one of the worst, most disgusting cases he's ever seen. This is an unsanitary, unsafe, unhealthy living environment. I've also had to miss work and incurred medical expenses to treat my bites. I have a bag of bugs saved as evidence, as well as doctor's paperwork and photographs. Since the apartment complex refuses to correct the situation I will now be consulting an attorney as well as the media.
