COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
I moved into charter house apartments barely a month ago right after an old tenant moved out. I immediately experienced non-stop itching all over my hands and legs and started treating myself for allergies(I am a Licensed Nurse Practitioner) The itching went on for weeks and only recently (two days ago) noticed a small roach like bug on my pillow and after researching found that it was actually a bed bug. I had never seen one before nor experienced anything like this. I immediately notified my landlord and took necessary precautions such as cleaning all bedding and getting rid of the mattress (in a sanitary manner i bought all the disposable mattress bags etc). Now the Landlord wants me to pay for the pest control guys citing that I could have brought the bed bugs with me when I moved in. Bed bug eggs take weeks to hatch and I moved in right after a previous tenant. I have never seen nor experienced bed bugs before.I have refused to pay for any charges because it is their responsibility to create a habitable environment. (not to mention the roaches issue)
