COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

My son rented a house with three other boys this past semester. At the end of the lease monies were deducted from my security deposit because one of the boys did not pay his rent for a number of months. All rents were to be paid by January 2013 and the lease expired on june 1 2013. So, for all those months that the rent was not paid the landlord did not make an effort to collect the monies from that individual or notify the others that portions of the rents were not being paid. The landlord knew that he had other's security deposits to easily take our money for his portion of the rent. If, we knew the rent was not being paid maybe we could have did something to prevent this situation. The landlord has made no effort to collect the money from the other boy and told me i should chase this person because the landlord was within his legal rights to just take the money from the others. He also had a legal right to notify us of non payment by the other individual .His share($313.75) for non payment was taken from my security deposit without any prior notification

Renter Aug 2, 2013 24.45.238.62 Under the law the landlord did not act in good faith. He had a legal right to inform us that the other tenant was not paying rent, so we had an opportunity to act accordingly. How can we be responsible if we were not aware of the situation? The landlord made no attempt to notify us or notify the tenant that he was in default. The landlord has a legal obligation to notify all responsible of the default. I asked the landlord for documentation to support the default notifications and received nothing in return. This just sounds like the landlord know he had an easy out and did nothing.
