When we moved into this apt the first day the next door neighbor was moving out and warned us of bedbugs. However since lease was signed there was little we could do. In Feb 2013 my daughter started having numerous bites on her. All our animals were checked out and the vet found nothing on them, and suggested that we could have a bedbug infestation since he found bites but no fleas/mites ect on the pets. My daughter started sleeping on the couch downstairs and her bites cleared. In June 2013 in my upstairs bedroom I started getting bit as well. By the end of July I looked like I had a disease I had so many bites. We finally found a bug and when we looked on the internet discovered it was indeed a bedbug. Our lease was up in August, I gave notice on July 13th 2013 I was moving. During the process of moving we found the infestation was so bad, my daughter's bed and frame, my bed and frame, all our bedding, pillows, couches (sectional), clothing from my daughter's room, some clothing of mine that was packed away on the floor of the master bedroom closet. So far, this has cost me approximately 2500 dollars for replacement items and antibiotics for my bites (including doctors' visit). I did not pay rent from August 1, 2013 to when we moved out on August 11th, 2013. I will agree to pay that rent but I do want to be fully compensated for my losses as I am sure that this apt complex did not disclose a bed bug infestation to me or any other tenant in that complex. I feel that this was very deceptive, and on purpose--therefore I feel like I deserve compensation. Please note as well, I paid my rent ON TIME every month but one, was a quiet tenant and caused no disruptions. I am a single mom with only one income for my daughter and myself and these were expenses I could not afford.
