We have always been good tenants and paid rent on time and have not caused any issues since we lived here.We were very surprised to see a little bug in our bed and looked online and found they looked like bed bugs. We acted promptly and let the landlord know about it so they can send a professional to check it out. We cooperated with prompt treatment and complied with everything to get the bed bug issue resolved. I guess in our lease there is a bed bug addendum saying tenant is liable for cost of treatment. The next door apartment has been vacant for almost a year now and the landlord is blaming us on spreading bed bug to both our and the next door apartment. The landlord has no proof that the infestation started from our apartment, it could have started from the other apartment tenants and slowly moved into our apartment and we recently discovered it. At this time we don't think we should be liable for the bed bug problem when its the duty of landlord to provide a livable condition to the residents. We have also not seen any proof that during the treatment they found any more bed bugs in our apartment.
