COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

In August of 2013, I noticed water dripping from the bathroom ceiling, as I was getting ready for work. I notified the property manager, Kathy Lauletta, and she agreed to send someone to investigate. Three months go by and my family continues to endure the gradual inpourings of water from the apartment above. Every time the neighbors above us turn on their water, we reap the benefits. Around this time, my wife and I noticed that my son, who has asthma, would constantly have violent coughs and uncontrollable wheezing. We attributed the cause to the dirty carpet, but the wheezing persisted after we vacuumed and cleaned the carpet. I notified the office a second time on the second week of November 2013 and reminded them that we never had a visit from property maintenance. They apologized and said other maintenance issues that were pressing had priority and someone would visit the soon. They told me to make a list of issues and send it to the office. I did. Some of those issues were fixed but the leaking got worse. On Thanksgiving week, we noticed that my son could not breathe whenever we took him a bath. We blamed everything from the weather, the carpet, and the temperature. We were unaware what was lurking right above us. That same week, my son and I went to Florida for Thanksgiving break but my son ended up in the hospital with a lung infection. We spent several days in the hospital until we were released. After we came back from Florida, my wife pointed out that the ceiling where the leak was coming from had opened up. I notified the front office and begged them to get the ceiling repaired because we were tired of our neighbor’s bath water dripping on our family. In March of 2014, I got a call from the front office and they mentioned that a maintenance man would be at the apartment on a certain day. I requested the day off to let him in. I was curious to see how he would fix the damage so I observed him laying in metal gauze to cover the hole and applied some type of white paste to seal the hole. Three weeks later, the water came back. Now it’s June. This is my last month and I can barely breathe whenever I walk into this apartment and I think it’s because of the growing black mold in the ceiling. I notified the front office and they said maintenance would fix the repeated issue once I left. I’m not waiting that long! I’m spending $1,043 to live in this dump and I want to be able to take a decent shower without dodging black water everyday. Help Me!
