COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |
On Tuesday, July 1st, 2014, I received a notice on my door stating that a pest inspector would be inspecting my apartment on the following day. Up until this moment, I had no knowledge of any pest issue within my complex or my apartment. On Wednesday, July 2nd, 2014, the pest inspector confirmed that my apartment was infested with bedbugs and they would be chemically treating the apartment on Monday, July 7th, 2014. The day the apartment was chemically treated, I spoke with the tenants of the apartment below mine as their apartment was also getting treated. They were responsible for bringing in the bedbugs and had a larger infestation. Because of the more severe infestation, their apartment was receiving a heat treatment. I am unsatisfied with the cheaper, less effective method used on my apartment to treat the bedbugs. I am also unsatisfied with Woodhaven's lack of communication with myself, and my complex, regarding this issue. It is clear that they were aware of this issue before they informed me of the inspection. I also spoke with my neighbor across the hall and learned that he was also experiencing bedbugs. It became clear that the problem had grown to a complex issue and not just my apartment as well as the apartment below mine. Within a week of receiving chemical treatment at my apartment, the bedbugs were back, with me waking up to them on my arms and mattress. I called Woodhaven Maintenance on the same day, Tuesday, July 15th, 2014, to request another inspection. A woman by the name of Amber explained to me that an inspector had entered my apartment that day and did not see any bedbugs. I never gave any person consent to enter my apartment on this day, which breaks my contract and the law. Also, I knew I still had a bedbug problem due to waking up to them on my mattress and arms. Amber contracted another inspector to come out on Friday, July 18, 2014 to inspect the apartment. On Thursday, July 17, 2014, I arrived home and pulled an immature bedbug from the seam of my mattress and placed it in a tupperware container for the inspector. After speaking with him, he told me he did not see any bedbugs and sprayed the mattresses and floorboards of my apartment. After having the manager inspect the apartment and still refusing to heat treat the apartment, I would like to break my lease contract with Woodhaven.
