COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

I, Hillary Walker, moved to 4550 W Sahara Ave APT 1004 with my husband, Richard “Carl” Walker, January 26th, 2015. I began noticing bite marks and hives appearing on different areas of my body on March 26th of 2015. On April 1st, I began to take pictures of the bite marks I was suffering from. On the 14th of April, Olen Living provided a routine bug spray service to the inside and outside of the apartment because I had a feeling that there were bugs in the apartment. I bought a mattress pad encasement for my bed on April 8th and a box spring encasement for my bed on April 14th. On April 17th I went to the doctor’s office for the hives/bug bites because they were very itchy, sore, and some were infected from the skin being broken. I was prescribed a corticosteroid in order to get the swelling to go down and start healing, and was told to continue taking over the counter allergy medications to keep the areas from itching. On April 29th, I awoke to my entire left forearm raised, itching, and covered in hives. I found bite marks on my husband’s back as well, though his were not as raised as mine, and he did not find them itchy. That day I spent hours cleaning all the bedding and spare blankets in the house, cleaning carpets, washing my dog and his bedding, etc. I threw away all of my pillows and bought new ones in case the pillows held a bug infestation or allergens that was causing my hives. While putting my newly washed bedding on to my bed at approximately 9:00 PM, I pulled the mattress from the wall and noticed bugs in the crevice between the baseboards and the carpet. Upon further inspection, there were between 9 and 12 what I know to be “bed bugs” in this space. Following protocol to get rid of a bed bug infestation from information gathered online, my husband vacuumed up the bed bugs for approximately ten minutes. Then he immediately disposed of the vacuum bag in the outside dumpster. At 9:31 I reached out by phone to the Olen Living Nevada Regional Corporate office to file a complaint about the bed bug infestation. At 11:46 PM we reached out the Olen Living Nevada Regional Corporate Office again by phone to let them know that a formal complaint will be filed with RPA. My husband searched online for reviews on the Indian Hills apartment community and has found 2 very recent reviews (within in 6 months) claiming that they had rented an apartment within this community and they had found bed bug infestations.
