COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

I was notified by a third party (Diana Gonsalves) twenty days after returning my keys to the landlord that she had received a check in my name from her husband (Manny Gonsalves) that was given to him directly from Robert Crowe for my security deposit which was written for $425.00, half of the amount of the original deposit. Arrangements for this manner of return of deposit were never discussed between myself and the landlord, nor was I notified by the landlord that he had attempted to return my deposit. Upon calling Robert Crowe to clarify this information, I was informed that the carpets in apartment C at 8 Brookside Lane needed to be replaced as they could not be washed clean and that the oven was not cleaned and also needed to be replaced as a result. It was only during this same conversation that the landlord asked my permission to return my deposit through this third party. The alleged carpet damage is normal wear and tear of which I have photographic evidence. Photographic evidence of normal wear and tear of said oven is also available. Regardless of the oven’s age and cosmetic wear, it was left in excellent working condition. No attempt to contact me regarding the alleged damage was made by the landlord following my move out in mid-November or the return of the apartment keys on December 1, 2021, on which day we spoke via telephone. An itemized list of any repairs needed for the apartment and any remaining amount of security deposit was requested from the landlord on 12/21/2021 via telephone to be mailed to my new address.
