COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter)

My lease started on 2/5. I moved in that following weekend. I slept in my apartment on Monday night for the first time on 2/14. That Tuesday morning I had to go out of town for work. I returned that Friday evening around 4pm. My apartment burglarized sometime between Tuesday and Friday. The door had pry marks and appeared to be damaged on the outside but the lock and doorjamb seemed to have no damage. It appeared to me that the person who broke in must have had a key and tried to make it look like a forced entry. My brand new T.V. was stolen among a few other things. I immediately called the police and the property manager and filed a police report. The police officer informed me that these are problem apartments and he had been out to these units more times than he could count. He suggested that I move to a different part of town as soon as possible or continue to deal with these problems. Prior to moving in I had asked if they had any crime issues at there complex and they insisted that they had locking gates and that they employed a security guard. When I moved in the weekend of 2/12, friends that helped me move, and I noticed the gate directly in front of my apartment failed to lock. When I brought it to the managementā??s attention they said that the tenants constantly break that gate lock and that they would take care of it. I assumed it would be fixed but it was only after the break in that they fixed this lock. I also noticed shoddy repair work on the doorjamb to my apartment. Somebody had kicked in the door prior to me living there and the repairs where sub par. After I had been robbed, I asked them what had happened to the door before I lived there. They said they didn't know how it got like that and assured me there had not been any burglaries there. I did not feel like they where being truthful with me at all. My trust in the people that are supposed to help keep me secure had been completely shattered. I decided I wanted to move out rite then and there. I still had some pretty expensive stuff in the apartment so I moved all of my stuff into a couple different friendsā?? housesā??. They offered to move me into a different unit march 5th. I agreed and thought that we had reached a resolution that would suit both parties. But when I went to finalize the move into the new unit they wanted me to pay for the month of March at both units. I still didnā??t know where to get the money just to move my stuff around again. Gas is not cheap for a big truck
