| COMPLAINT DETAILS (from renter) |

I lived in Jamestown apartments for 2 years, then got new roommates who I could not stand to live with for another day because they were emotionally abusive and destructive and beyond disrespectful. I moved out mid semester on November 15th, 2011. My rent was paid in full for the entire rest of the year, through the beginning of May. When I went to the office, an employee, Candy, told me that my rent would be even if I found a subleaser to pay me $320/month in rent for the remaining months. I found a subleaser through one of the many ads I put up, after discounting the rent to $300. His name was Devon, and during the first week of January, we were going to meet in the office to sign the papers. They were halfway filled out, when the office manager, Alisha, told me that for a subleaser I was required to have written permission of all current tenants. One of the roommates then called the office and told them that she would "not sign for anyone because it didn't benefit her in any way." Devon ended up signing a lease with Jamestown for a different apartment that exact day. After researching their resident guide handbook, my lease, and their online forms, it was discovered that I in fact DID NOT need the other tenants permission for a subleaser and that it was supposed to be between me, the subleaser, and United Apartments only. Because of this, I lost the subleaser and $1,500 dollars ($300/month for 5 months). I gave the Jamestown office a letter on January 27th stating what I had found and asking for a response/refund. Another one was delivered around February 21st (plenty of time to respond from the first one). After still hearing nothing, we hired a lawyer to write a third letter with demands to have a response by March 23rd. It is now April 3rd and we have yet to hear anything. I also delivered a separate letter indicating I had moved out of the premises on November 15th and entered into a new lease with a different rental company with contact information for them to verify. Upon moving out, I had also spoken to Alisha about them inspecting the apartment to assess the condition to protect myself from any damages after I had left, considering I had gotten the carpets professionally cleaned just to be safe and courteous. I do not think they ever actually inspected the apartment, even after they said they would.
